If Immigrants were outlawed I wouldn't be here.

I can understand where the mayor is coming from when he says that he wants to make the streets of Hazleton safer, but I don't get how pushing english as the official language and being so harsh against illegal immigrants helps. He is acting like the only people who commit crimes are illegal immigrants and not the poor white trash or any other white person for that matter. It looks like a racial matter to me even though the mayor is claiming that it is not. The Latino/ Mexican population growth seems to be helping the city not hurting it.
The escalating crime rate isn't only located in Hazleton. Cities like Wilkes-Barre and surrounding towns are already down the crapper due to people from the bigger cities migrating farther and farther south. Illegal immigration is probably not the reason for the escalation in crime.
......................
Pretty much same arguments keep coming up in all three issues. English as the main language being compromised for another language, small towns adjusting to immigration of different cultures, and elections coming up so republicans are trying to appease their voters by acting on the push for banning illegal immigrants.

I say get over the language bit. It's only a language. English isn't going to die out. Letting your kids learn two languages atleast when growing up will help them. If other cultures are becoming more of a majority that makes your own culture even more special. You don't have to change your culture. Everyone should just be nice to everyone else and help. We should take it as a compliment that so many people want to move to the US and should help these immigrants by showing that we are as great a nation as they think we are.
