It's About Dang Time

Hi everybody.
I'm Nick, the dude who didn't show up till the second class. I wanted to try Honors Comp. becasue it seems that when I was at Connections, nobody wanted to try taking the class and everyone was saying how few books they read over the past year. I'm an avid reader. I'd like to think of this course as a road less taken and hopefully it'll be an interesting one to traverse down . I'll post when discussion hits. See you later.

The central air is to blame!

It is an urgent case, as severely urgent as how much stress my coughing throat can vent out. I am cold, I am cold, I am cold.

Now when I am cold, the issue is not just personal. Easily yet susceptibly the common sense can tell, this uncomfortable feeling must be brought about by some external factors. Some external factors which include YOUR central air! It is guilty! It is to blame!

Nonetheless, some may doubt that another external term might be I did not dress up well enough to provide my own self with warmness. How ridiculous! I am here in front of you, lacking no single pieces of clothes (see?), let alone I do wear extra protective covers such as 2 rings, a necklace, a pair of contact lens and an umbrella, etc. The bundle is so huge that please, do not require me to add anything else unless you are thinking of making acquaintance with a desperate Eskimo. Since the matter is definitely not from me, it is from YOUR central air!

Now it is clear that the central air is to be judged. As what I have seen in the Business Law class so far, this culpable equipment will be in charge for:
- Made me cold against the rights of human beings. It is against the Federal Constitution.
- Made me add 200 calories per day to compensate lost energy used by biological heat consumption. That means more money spent on food, less more money spent on losing weight.
- Made me jump into the sun right after leaving class. However, like most of other Asian girls I do not want to get burned. Does not it directly indicate supplementary fee for sunscreen lotion and whitening cream? The finance burden really matters!
- Made me write this complaint in another air-conditioned room. And I feel cold again!
So please...

……..
Please let me cough in class ;))

(Sorry for spamming, just want to practice a little before taking serious writing . I have not written anything in English for years – that damages my skills a lot. See you next Thursday!)

hi

well im kim and i wrote an introduction of myself and i hit the publish post thing and i guess it didnt get published because i havent seen it again so im hoping maybe it will turn up but i dont know i dont have any time to figure it out c ya in class

A piece of greeting

“The day started at 7am with a beam of sunlight breaking through window’s slots and whizzing noises from my old fashion air condition – ah no, not really mine, it officially belongs to my landlord. However, to realize how limited your legal rights were over tampering the someone-else item was such difficult perception that you just, exactly like the way I did, simply and enthusiastically kicked it with all your unbridled revenge. Ha, ha, now it seemed to be a good start for the day. As inspired as any successful avenger would be, I was then completely ready to go...

…downstairs.”

Really wish that it would be the end of my daily journey – up to bed and down to kitchen. Hurtfully, this route extends itself across some acres of corn fields, then an airport, then a cemetery, through Kutztown Campus and spreads up to the downtown shopping center. On foot! For a Vietnamese girl who was so familiar with motorcycling and cycling a motorcycle, I have to say it is gently tough.

Guess who I am! :)

Hey Everyone

Hey my name is Paul Walsh and I'm a secondary education major with a concentration in English. I'm pretty pumped about this honors comp. class I must say. Some of my interests include baseball, hanging out with my friends, bowling, long walks on the beach, sunsets...haha just kidding about the last two. But anyway I can't wait to get this class underway and I hope I get to know everyone else better really soon. Bye

Hello Everyone!!

Hey Everyone,

I'm Melanie Burkhart and I hail from York, PA. I'm an education major here at KU. More than likely a Special Education major, but I'm still toying around with my options. I enjoy swimming, martial arts, photography, and volunteering. I love to help people so if anyone needs me for anything, don't hesitate to ask :) I'm not terribly opinionated so this class may be somewhat of a struggle for me in that respect. I'm up for the challenge, though.

I hope to get to know everyone better!! My e-mail is mburk357@kutztown.edu. Don't be afraid to use it.

Melanie

Drop/Add

Hey, y'all. I'm Laura Maurice, the girl in class who announced during introductions that she was planning to drop Honors Comp once her AP credits went through.
Yeah... About that...
Kutztown's drop/add process confuses the bejeezus out of me. Thanks to Kutztown's University, I am now lacking bejeezus. I am bejeezusless.
...There's an older man sitting in the computer lab four computers down whistling very loudly. "Oh, oh oh, it's magic, ya kno-o-ow." Fifteen minutes ago he was talking very loudly on his cell phone with somone who I can only assume was Public Safety, asking how he could register his vehicle. Noisy people should be given muzzles at the entrances to the computer lab and the library. Oh, God. Now he's whistling something else.
Right, anyway, I met with my academic advisor to ask her why my AP credits hadn't gone through, and she sent me to the woman who'd supposedly received my exam results and sent a letter of confirmation to my house. This woman told me to drop Honors Comp, add the class I'm replacing it with, and call her when I was done. I left her office at approximately 3:55.
Since the campus network appears to be all screwy today, I went to the computer lab and logged onto Online Student Services. I assumed that I'd be able to register online, considering it's the Drop/Add Period until Friday. But no, upon entering the Course Registration page I was greeted with a big, bright "Registration not allowed."
And I can't go to the Registrar's Office now, because according to the website it closed at 4:00 PM.
And I was told at 3:55 to finish registering by tomorrow.
But... The Office is closed.
And I can't register online, apparently.
Mon Dieu, je suis confus.
I was unsure whether I should bother doing the Honors Comp assignment, considering I'm technically still in the class, but am in the (long, complicated, exhausting) process of dropping it. So I decided to compromise, and partially complete the assignment. I'm posting an entry, but not I'm not commenting on the others because I don't have a lot of free time tonight. Sure, as a current student this makes my assignment incomplete, and makes me appear lazy. But after I drop this class, it'll be like, "She did the work for a class she was planning to drop? Golly gee, what a overacheiver! She deserves a medal!"
I really do wish I could take this class, because it sounds like it'll be considerably more interesting than the History class I plan to replace it with, but it would be a waste to take a course I supposedly already have credits for.
All righty, now that I've filled up a considerable amount of page space with this ranting post, I'm going to go wandering along Main Street with my roomies. Perhaps I'll be able to take care of this scheduling business tomorrow.
Or perhaps I'll just drop out of college and live in a box on the side of the highway, emerging only to kill and devour passing opossums, my only form of sustenance. It would certainly be less stressful than the registration process.

First Impressions

Hello fellow students,
I am Emily Machovec and I am computer illiterate. So, this is an experiment as well as an introduction. With some help I am quite certain that this little message will some how find its way to the class discussion arena. I am looking forward to further class discussions electronic or otherwise. For my bio-trivia I will simply say what my whole life story has been condensed to...I am a Crafts major with a concentration in metals. I have great aspirations to be a silversmith/jewelry designer.

farewell.

Hey!!!!

Hi guys! I'm Jen and I procrastinated doing this by leaving comments on other posts. I'm from Northampton and am at Kutztown to major in Secondary Math Education. If you ever hear me refer to my baby, no I do not have a kid, I have a bordercollie who I love and miss alot! I wish my roommate Michelle was still with us, but I think this class still has a lot of cool kids in it and will be alot of fun!

Me and Such

Good morning, all. My name's Tim, as you can tell by reading the end of this post. As of now, I'm listed as a Secondary Ed major, certified in Social Sciences, concentrating in Psychology. Yeah, it's a mouthful. However, as soon as KU gets around to getting me an advisor, I'll immediately change that Social Studies, concentrating in Psychology. Of course, that may all go out of the window at any given moment. I do enjoy writing a great deal, in case you haven't noticed. My verbosity is making itself evident, so I'll wrap it up. Hopefully I get to know each of the readers personally and if you want to know anything about me, ask away. Later.

Hey Hey Hey!

Well I guess i'm now an official blogger. Hi everyone my name is Renee Nicole Franklin. My favorite color is pink and I love life! I am a secondary english education major. I hope to be a great teacher one day or maybe even an administrator.

I plan on having a great time in this class. I look forward to seeing my classmates again. Enjoy the college experiance, I know I will!

Ciao for now.

Hon. Comp. Introduction

Here's my attemp at an introduction... I'm Alison and, as I said in class, I'm an elementary ed. major with my concentration in early childhood. I'm from NJ and constantly get comments because I say Kutztown different. I went to school for a 1/2 day last year and then interned with a local primary school for the other 1/2. That's pretty much it so I'll see everyone Thursday.

Hi everyone!

My name is Sandy Datz and I am an elementary education major. I grew in Mickleton, a small town in New Jersey. Some of my interests/activities are sports, especially tennis and basketball, reading, going to the beach, and community service. I am really excited about college and getting involved in some new activities.

I am looking forward to this class and hope it will help me to become a stronger writer. I look forward to meeting and getting to know everyone. If anyone wants to get together to study let me know. My e-mail is sdatz699@kutztown.edu.

Hey Honors Comp @ 12!

It's Danielle Martin from class! I just wanted to start off with a blog saying that I'm looking forward to class, and I hope you guys are too. I know I probably sound like a teacher's pet, but I am excited about college because it'll actually mean something to my future.

I hope to get better writing skills and debating/arguing skills from this class, and I wish you all the best of luck!

If you guys need a study buddy my email is dmart528@kutztown.edu. If you want my cell phone number, please e-mail me asking for it, but don't forget to say who you are!! :)

See you guys Thursday.

Welcome to Mahoney's Honors Composition Class

I wanted to welcome everyone to our little corner of the 'blogosphere.' This will be our space to continue discussions for class, pose questions and ideas, and to experiment with one form of public writing.

Our class blog contains the postings from students from previous semesters. I’ve decided to keep these posts active to highlight how the conversations we will be having in this class are on-going and that you are entering a conversation that is already in progress. In fact, we will be talking about writing as an on-going conversation all throughout this class. In his book The Philosophy of Literary Form: Studies in Symbolic Action, Kenneth Burke, a literary and rhetorical scholar, gave us the following metaphor of a “parlor” to highlight the conversational nature of knowledge making and, I would argue, writing:

Imagine that you enter a parlor. You come late. When you arrive, others have long preceded you, and they are engaged in a heated discussion, a discussion too heated for them to pause and tell you exactly what it is about. In fact, the discussion had already begun long before any of them got there, so that no one present is qualified to retrace for you all the steps that had gone before. You listen for a while, until you decide that you have caught the tenor of the argument, then you put in your oar. Someone answers; you answer him [or her]; another comes to your defense; another aligns himself [or herself] against you, to either the embarrassment of gratification of your opponent, depending upon the quality of your ally’s assistance. However, the discussion is interminable. The hour grows late, you must depart. And you do depart, with the discussion still vigorously in progress (110-111, brackets mine).
So, we'll be talking a lot about conversations...and, hopefully, we will add to this on-going conversation in new and interesting ways...ways that reflect who you are and what you have to say.

I'm looking forward to a great semester!

Best,
Kevin Mahoney
